Naming Ceremony

Naming Ceremony

Namkaran – the traditional Hindu naming ceremony is performed to formally choose name of the new-born baby and celebrate with the family. It is performed within a few weeks of the baby’s birth. Well, 10th, 11th or 12th day after birth is considered the most auspicious day for the ceremony.

Under the guidance of a Hindu Priest, after a bath, the baby and his parents wear new cloths for puja and havan. Moreover, special prayers are offered for baby’s health, joy and longevity. The horoscope of the baby is also prepared during this puja, which is optional and can be discussed with expert Hindu Priest. In the end, father or mother whisper baby’s name in his ears. Chosen name is then announced to the kith, kin and guests. All bless the baby and offer him gifts.
